The IPI Self-Structured Residency offers artists, writers, curators, and researchers the time and space to pursue independent work and research in Fujino.

The residency is intentionally self-directed and does not prescribe a specific outcome. Participants are encouraged to shape their time according to their own practice, whether developing a project, conducting research, writing, experimenting with materials, or simply taking time for reflection and exploration.

Through an application process, IPI selects up to three residents at a time, considering the balance of practices, perspectives, and research interests within each residency period. The small cohort creates space for both independent work and meaningful exchange.

Residents have opportunities to engage with Fujino’s landscape, local culture, and community, and to connect with artists, farmers, craftspeople, educators, and other practitioners within IPI’s wider network through communal events and collaborations, if desired.

The program encourages exchange and new perspectives while allowing each resident the freedom to determine how their experience in Fujino becomes part of their ongoing practice.

We welcome self-funded residents as well as those supported through institutional sponsorships or grants. IPI is happy to provide letters of acceptance, program details and other required documentation to support funding or grant applications.
